To make the newly introduced Special Mediator system in Bangladesh more effective and strong, a two-day basic mediation training has been held for legal professionals under the joint initiative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The training, held at the Intercontinental Dhaka in the capital from July 31 to August 1, 2026, discussed in detail modern mediation techniques, effective methods and international experiences.
The training was conducted by Professor Miyatake Masako, a professor at Keio University in Japan. He highlighted the experiences, successful practices and best practices of mediation systems in various countries including Japan. During this time, lively discussions and knowledge exchange were held with legal professionals of Bangladesh.
The closing ceremony of the training was attended by the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, MP. The special guest was Takahashi Junko, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office.
The organizers said that this training will enhance the skills of legal professionals and strengthen the special mediator system. As a result, the mediation system will be established as a more accessible, effective and people-friendly means of dispute resolution for the common people.
According to them, this initiative will play an important role in expanding access to justice, reducing the backlog of court cases and resolving civil and family disputes quickly and effectively. At the same time, it is being considered as an important milestone in further strengthening the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system in Bangladesh.
