A special seminar on women’s rights, equality and empowerment in Bangladesh was organized by the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The seminar was held on 27 April 2025 at the Ascot Palace Hotel in the capital. The seminar was titled “Rights. Equality. Empowerment: A Discussion on Women’s Progress in Bangladesh”.

The chief guest of the event was Mr. Takahashi Naoki, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan, Bangladesh. Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, and Ms. Rubaba Dawla, Country Managing Director, Oracle Bangladesh, delivered speeches as special guests.


The panel discussion was attended by distinguished speakers including: Ms. Kazi Rubaiya Islam, Corporate and Media Relations Lead, CA&C, Japan Tobacco International (JTI); Ms. Uzma Chowdhury, CPA, Director (Finance), PRAN-RFL Group; and Ms. Aminata Ba, Assistant Manager, Mitsubishi Corporation, Dhaka Branch. The discussion focused on the progress and challenges faced by women in the economic and social spheres.

This seminar was considered a very successful and timely initiative, which will play a helpful role in taking more effective steps for the development of women and protecting their dignity and rights.
