Jamaat Ameer expresses deep concern over fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Cargo Village

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed deep concern over the horrific fire at the Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the country’s main international gateway.

In a statement on Saturday (October 18, 2025), he said, “This airport is not just a passenger transport hub, but also an important symbol of Bangladesh’s image. After the horrific fires in Mirpur in the capital and the EPZ area of Chittagong in the past week, today’s fire at the airport’s Cargo Village is undoubtedly worrying. Everyone is concerned about whether these incidents are accidental accidents or sabotage.”

The Jamaat Ameer further said, “Such a fire incident in a strategic facility like an airport is a clear proof of administrative mismanagement, negligence and security deficiency. If there is any element of negligence, mismanagement or sabotage, the concerned authorities must identify the culprits through a fair, impartial and speedy investigation and bring them under the law to ensure exemplary punishment.”

He called for ensuring maximum security and firefighting measures at all important facilities in the country, including airports, to avoid such accidents in the future.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed deep sympathy for the panicked passengers and the general public and sincere condolences to the affected businessmen and importers. He also expressed gratitude to the members of the fire service and other forces engaged in extinguishing the fire.
