Intellectual property protection is the key to national progress: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

World Intellectual Property Day 2026 is going to be celebrated tomorrow, Sunday (April 26, 2026). On this occasion, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in a message, highlighted the importance of intellectual property in the country’s development, innovation and sports.

In the message, he said that like other countries in the world, the day is being celebrated in Bangladesh, which is very important for the country’s rapid progress. He mentioned that this year’s theme, ‘Intellectual Property and Sports: Get Ready, Get Started, Innovate’, is timely and significant in harnessing the creativity of the youth.

The Prime Minister emphasized that intellectual property protection encourages new ideas, innovations and creative activities. At the same time, it has an important role in various fields including sports technology, training methods, branding of sports products, broadcasting industry and digital content.

He mentioned that Bangladesh is currently full of youth energy. In this era of development of information technology, agriculture, industry, research, startups and creative economy, intellectual property protection is one of the conditions for national progress. To this end, the government is working to build a modern, simple and effective service system.

The message further said that necessary steps have already been taken to provide online registration, provide fast service, strengthen legal protection and prevent counterfeit products. In addition, emphasis was placed on ensuring international recognition and protection of the country’s traditional products. She reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the global status of domestic products including Jamdani and Hilsa.

The Prime Minister said that sports are no longer just entertainment; it is a promising profession, social force and emerging economic sector. Initiatives have been taken to ensure financial security for national athletes by introducing allowances and sports cards.

She also said that work is underway to search for new talents across the country, expand modern training facilities and create an international standard sports environment.

At the end of her speech, the Prime Minister expressed hope that these initiatives will open new horizons for the country’s sports-based industry, sports product production, branding, sports media, tourism, investment and employment.
