Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the need to further increase the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) support for the overall development of the country.
He made this call in a meeting with ADB Country Director Hoey Yun Jeong at the Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 01, 2026). Expressing gratitude for ADB’s growing contribution to Bangladesh’s development activities in the meeting, the Minister highlighted the need to further expand and strengthen this support in the future.
The Minister said that the rural areas of the country, especially the northern region, still face significant challenges in terms of communication systems, safe water supply and waste management. He requested ADB to increase its support to address these issues.
At the meeting, the ADB Country Director congratulated the minister and said that ADB is ready to take all necessary steps to further expand development cooperation with Bangladesh.
At that time, Secretary of the Local Government Division, Md. Shahidul Hasan, along with senior officials of the ministry and heads of subordinate departments were present.
