On Wednesday (May 13, 2026), Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, made these remarks during a site visit and a meeting with stakeholders to expand the railway line from Jaria Jhanjail Railway Station in Purbadhala Upazila of Netrokona district to Durgapur.
The Deputy Speaker said, “This is a 108-year-old station. But everything seems to have stopped with the development that took place 108 years ago. I firmly believe that under the leadership of the State Minister for Railways and with the cooperation of the concerned officials, this long-standing stagnation will end.”
The Deputy Speaker also said, “In the last election, the people of this region were promised the development and expansion of the existing railway line. I hope that the people of this area will benefit from it, InshaAllah.”
The Deputy Speaker said, “The expansion of the railway line from Zaria Jhanjail to Durgapur is a timely and very important initiative for the development of tourism, trade, agriculture and local economy of the Durgapur region of Netrokona. If this railway line is implemented, the long-standing expectations of the people of the border and remote areas will be fulfilled and new horizons will be opened in the communication system.”
He also said, “The current government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working relentlessly to bring the benefits of development to the doorsteps of the people. The government is implementing various projects on priority basis to expand the railway to bring the remote areas of the country under the modern communication network. The trend of development will continue in this promising region of Netrokona as well.”
During the visit, State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid said, “The proud son of this region, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, is playing an important role in the development of the area. He has taken the initiative to expand the railway line from Zaria station to Durgapur and is working to implement it.”
He also said, “The feasibility study and land acquisition work are underway to expand the line.”
The Secretary of the Railways Ministry, Director General, Deputy Commissioner, Upazila Executive Officer, President of Durgapur Press Club, President of the Merchants Association, Ameer of Upazila Jamaat, President of Upazila BNP and local leaders spoke at the meeting.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Officer-in-Charge, Railway officials, concerned officials of the Parliament Secretariat, leaders of various organizations of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and media workers of various electronic and print media were present at the time.
