Hope for continued World Bank cooperation in Bangladesh’s development

Desk Report:

A World Bank delegation led by the World Bank’s Bangladesh and Bhutan Division Director Jean Pesme, who is posted in Bangladesh, met with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 01, 2026).

Expressing gratitude for the World Bank’s continued cooperation in the overall development of the country, the minister expressed hope that this cooperation will continue in the future.

The minister said that the World Bank is one of the development partners of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has already achieved significant success in the agriculture and food security sectors. He called for further expansion of the scope of World Bank cooperation to maintain this trend of progress.

At the time, the World Bank’s Bangladesh and Bhutan Division Director congratulated the minister and said that it is necessary to emphasize the rapid implementation of various ongoing development projects. He also expressed hope for further expansion of cooperation in the priority sectors of the government.

Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan, along with senior officials of the ministry and heads of relevant departments, were present at the meeting.
