Adviser on Home Affairs Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has urged the BGB to perform its duty as a vigilant guard of the border.
The advisor made this call as the Chief Guest at the BGB Medal distribution ceremony organized on the occasion of BGB Day 2024 at the border conference center of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Pilkhana in the capital on Monday (December 23, 2024) morning.

The advisor said, Border Guard Bangladesh is a traditional border guard force of 229 years. He said that the role and professionalism of BGB in various nation-building tasks including providing assistance to the civil administration in maintaining law and order, dealing with various accidents, natural disasters and emergency situations deserves praise. As a symbol of the trust of the people of Bangladesh, these forces must fulfill their duties properly as the ‘guardian of the border’.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, the brave and glorious role of BGB (former BDR) in the great liberation war is highly commendable. About 12 thousand Bengali members of this force actively participated in the liberation war. A total of 817 members including 2 Bir Shrestha, 8 Bir Uttam, 32 Bir Bikram and 77 Bir Prateek were martyred in the Great War of Liberation. He remembered their deep sacrifice in the great liberation war with great respect.

The advisor also said that Border Guard Bangladesh is a well-disciplined force with the glory of valor and tradition. He said that the biggest tool of BGB members engaged in the service of the country is their patriotism, honesty and unwavering morale. BGB members must be strong and fearless to protect every inch of the border and stop smuggling. Similarly, one should be responsible and people-friendly in dealing with the internal situation. He also said that the success of a well-disciplined force depends on truthfulness and establishing a ‘chain of command’ at every level. The adviser urged the BGB members to follow the ‘chain of command’ and fulfill their duties honestly.

The Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui delivered the welcome address on the occasion. Md. Khoda Bakhs Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Secretary (Routine Duties) of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs were present as special guests. In recognition of their meritorious work in the past year, the advisor presented medals to 32 BGB members. It is to be noted that this year 12 people were awarded Border Guard Bangladesh Medal (BGBM), 24 were awarded President Border Guard Medal (PBGM), 12 were awarded Border Guard Bangladesh Medal-Service (BGBMS) and 24 were awarded Presidential Border Guard Medal-Service (PBGMS). BGB members are awarded various posts.
Later, the adviser participated in the felicitation ceremony organized by BGB for the award-winning freedom fighters and their families.
