Significant discussions have taken place between Bangladesh and Singapore regarding the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, the expansion of air connectivity, collaboration on carbon credits, and capacity building within the financial sector.
Derek Loh, the non-resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Bangladesh, recently paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Rashiduzzaman Millat. The meeting covered the expansion of air connectivity on the Dhaka-Singapore route, the possibility of increasing the frequency of Singapore Airlines flights, and potential cooperation regarding the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Abdul Awal Mintoo, High Commissioner Derek Loh commended the significant progress Bangladesh has made in developing its carbon market. He noted that mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore on carbon credits would be mutually beneficial. Singapore has expressed its expectation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh on this matter in the near future.
Separately, in a meeting with Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khurshiduzzaman Majumder, the High Commissioner discussed the potential for capacity building and mutual cooperation within the financial services sector.
During his visit to Bangladesh, High Commissioner Derek Loh also engaged with editors from several prominent media outlets. Additionally, he met with representatives from various diplomatic missions stationed in Dhaka.
Accompanying the High Commissioner during these meetings were Singapore’s Chargé d’Affaires, Philip Ong, as well as officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Enterprise Singapore.
