Eversh Ijabs, Chief Observer of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission and Member of the European Parliament, paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting was held at 11 am on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) at the central office of Jamaat-e-Islami in the capital. A 15-member high-level EU delegation led by Eversh Ijabs was present at the time.

The meeting was held in a very cordial and cordial atmosphere. Various important issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the European Union were discussed during the meeting. In particular, it was mentioned in the meeting that Bangladesh and the European Union will work closely to make the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections free, fair and acceptable.
In addition, both sides agreed to strengthen and sustain the constitutional and democratic institutions of Bangladesh. The European Union informed the meeting that the EU will deploy a 200-member election observation mission to Bangladesh to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Both sides expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the European Union will be further strengthened in the future and that the trend of development and progress will continue.
The Ameer-e-Jamaat was accompanied by the organization’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Jamaat’s Europe Spokesperson Barrister Abu Bakr Mollah, eminent academician Dr. Zubair Ahmed and the Ameer-e-Jamaat’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan during the meeting.
