Government stands by all people regardless of caste, religion and political identity: Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare

Desk Report:

Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, MP, has said that the government stands by all people regardless of caste, religion and political identity. There are currently 4 million registered people with special needs in the country.

The minister said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the newly-created ‘Project Rise Word for Child Healthcare’ at the Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad in the capital on Thursday (July 30, 2026). The function was presided over by freedom fighter Dr. Makhduma Nargis.

The minister said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants to build an inclusive, compassionate and humane Bangladesh, where no one will feel unloved, deprived or helpless. Various humanitarian initiatives taken by the government have already resonated with the public.

He further said that if children with special needs living in the society are provided with various therapies and treatments, they can recover and integrate into the mainstream of society. In this regard, the minister urged the government as well as the wealthy people of the society to come forward. He further said that tax rebates can be obtained by donating to social service organizations. He also urged everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. At the same time, the minister thanked Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad and ‘The Dawoodi Bohras of Bangladesh’ for this humanitarian work.

It is worth noting that Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad, established in 1957, is currently operating an 80-bed physiotherapy center. With the addition of 70 more beds today, 150 children with special needs will now receive this service.

Representatives of various organizations working with children with special needs, including representatives of ‘The Dawoodi Bohras of Bangladesh’ from Dhaka and Chittagong, were also present at the event.
