Minister for Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, MP, said that the government is giving special importance to technical education along with formal education. Expansion of technical and vocational education is very important to fully utilize the opportunities of demographic dividend and transform the country’s vast youth into skilled human resources of international standards. To this end, the government is taking and implementing various timely steps.
The minister said this at the inauguration ceremony of the project titled ‘Poverty Alleviation through Employment of Marginalized Communities of the Society’ initiated by the Department of Social Services and UCEP Bangladesh in Mirpur, the capital, on Sunday (August 2, 2026).
The minister said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman wants to build an inclusive and humane Bangladesh, where people from every level of society can live with dignity.
He further said that the Honorable Prime Minister is laying special emphasis on developing skilled human resources with technical knowledge. For this purpose, along with increasing skills, it is necessary to learn a third language besides Bengali and English. If the skilled manpower developed in this way can be exported abroad, on the one hand, their families will be prosperous, and on the other hand, the flow of national remittances will also increase. In this context, he called for giving special importance to the caregiving sector.
It is worth noting that the objective of this project is to eliminate poverty and contribute to their socio-economic development by creating decent employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the society, especially poor youth and women, people with disabilities, disadvantaged ethnic groups, marginalized communities, transgender communities, madrasa students, people from coastal areas, helpless communities, small ethnic groups, government child families, adolescent centers, technical training centers of the Department of Social Services, adolescents of integrated child family centers and fighters participating in the ‘July 2024 Movement’, considering the needs of the domestic and international labor market to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. A total of 7,500 people will be trained in 17 trades in 19 districts under this project and decent employment opportunities will be created.
Also present at the event were Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Director General of the Department of Social Services Shah Mohammad Mahbub, Executive Director of Yousef Bangladesh Dr. Md. Abdul Karim, officials, teachers and staff of the institution. The program was presided over by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid, member of the Yousef Board of Governors.
