‘Foreign Investors Summit 2025’ held in Dhaka to expand foreign investment

The ‘Foreign Investors Summit 2025’ was organized by BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited on Wednesday at Hotel Sheraton in the capital Dhaka with the aim of expanding foreign investment in the country’s capital market.

The chief guest at the inaugural ceremony was Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor and Chairman of the Capital Market Development Committee. BRAC EPL Chief Executive Officer Ahsanur Rahman delivered the welcome speech. BSEC Commissioner Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury, BRAC Bank PLC Chairperson Mehriyar M Hasan, Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC Chairman Mominul Islam and Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman were present as special guests at the ceremony.

At the conclusion of the first half of the conference, Fahima Chowdhury, Chairperson of BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage Limited, presented awards to the guests. The entire session was moderated by Saiful Islam, President of DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh.

Former Commerce Minister and founding chairman of Chittagong Stock Exchange Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “To take Bangladesh’s economy to a sustainable and high level, there is no alternative but to increase domestic and foreign investment. Running the economy by printing loans or money is not a permanent solution.” He further mentioned that as news of the country’s elections spread, domestic entrepreneurs are making new preparations, and foreign investors are also interested in Bangladesh. Proof of this is that a large delegation from Japan has come to invest in the country.

Amir Khasru also said, “It is important to strengthen the capital market for long-term financing. Investors must be ensured product branding, technical and financial assistance, and direct access to the global market. Increased government spending on social sector and infrastructure development and the flow of foreign capital will give a new impetus to the economy.”

Investors, business representatives, capital market experts, and policymakers from different countries participated in the conference. The keynote address was presented by Policy Exchange Bangladesh Chairman Dr. M. Masrur Riaz, and the panel discussion was attended by BSEC Commissioner Md. Saifuddin, Managing Director of Contextual Investment LLC Takao Hirose, and Fund Manager of Asia Frontier Investments Limited Ruchir Desai.

The discussion was moderated by DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh President Saiful Islam. Also present were Industry and Commerce Department President Md. Shahidul Islam, Secretary Dr. Anwarul Azim, Vice President Md. Anwarul Islam Raju, and Secretary General PS Md. Hasan Faizullah.

BRAC EPL said that such an international conference will play an important role in industrialization, employment generation, and increasing foreign investment in the country.
