Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the upcoming February elections will create a strong foundation. This foundation will strengthen democracy and make the government accountable to the people. The journey to achieve the goal of building a society free of discrimination and exploitation, which has not yet been fulfilled, will be possible from here.
She said these things while talking to journalists after paying homage at the Shaheed Bedi at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) morning. She said that this is not just an election, it is also a kind of referendum. The people will be able to express their opinions on important issues related to reform. Based on this, the journey of democracy can begin in a new form.
Rizwana Hasan said that it is very sad that in Bangladeshi politics, instead of logic and argument, violent methods like assassination attempts are being used to suppress opponents. This is condemnable and cowardly. There is no heroism in it. She said that if there is power, one must face the people. In a democratic state, everyone knows the way to face the people.
She also said that the culture that has been created to beat up opponents has no place in the new Bangladesh. This government will be successful only when the goal of fair elections, justice and reforms with which the journey has started can be implemented.
The advisor said that the government’s goal is to ensure a peaceful, fair and spontaneous election. People should be able to vote without fear. However, there is a force active to disrupt this process. In addition to resisting that force, social resistance needs to be built.
She said that the government is looking forward to peaceful and acceptable elections. However, an attempt is being made to scare the people. The government is trying its best to protect the people.
