A “discussion meeting” was held on Saturday 21st September at Fars Hotel & Resort to “reform FBCCI General Assembly rights”.Former Vice President Abul Kasem Haider, Giyas Uddin Khokon, Zakir Hossain Nayan and Zakir Hossain led the organization of this festival-oriented meeting. The exchange meeting began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and prayer for the dead and injured by the anti-discrimination student crowd, a minute’s silence and the national anthem.
In the meeting, former vice president of FBCCI, Abul Kasem Haider said, there are 80 directors in FBCCI. 57 of them are nominated directors. Recalling the past of Salman F. Rahman, he said, “I am saddened to see the current situation of Salman F. Rahman after the fall of the dictatorship.” So in the future, no business friend should have to see such a situation. That is why the government of business leaders must come out of Telmara culture.
Giyas Uddin Khokon, a prominent public leader and general member of FBCCI, said that extortion should be stopped here. Hatkhola buildings cannot be played with.
Mahbub Runu, former director of FBCCI, said that the auto director should be removed. Otherwise nothing will happen. He warned that if there is no reform, no one will go to the elections.
Zakir Hossain, former popular student leader and general member of FBCCI presented the whole program. And while giving a speech, he said, we are free to speak today due to the success of the anti-discrimination student movement. He expressed gratitude to the dead and injured of the anti-discrimination student movement.
In the discussion meeting, the leaders of BGMEA, chairman of Rahim Afroz, many eminent industrialists of the country and countless GB members attended and expressed their solidarity regarding the reform of FBCCI. And many GB members said we want to see FBCCI’s directly elected representatives of GB members in all posts. We do not want sector based elections and want auto direct system and nominated director system to be abolished forever.
FBCCI Reform Proposal:
- There will be no Nominee Directors, i.e. the existing system of 17 + 17 = 34 Nominee Directors will be scrapped.
- Direct election should be held for all positions including president, vice president
- No one can stand for more than two terms as a director
- Also sector wise director post is not applicable
- Donations under new organizations should be brought to a limited (reasonable) level instead of 50 lakhs.
