French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Serre-Charle met with Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
The meeting was held at the office of the Special Assistant in the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Secretariat on Tuesday (November 25, 2025).
Faiz Ahmed Tayyab said that the Bangladesh government is creating various legal and technology-based administrative structures, including the Cyber Security Act, Personal Data Protection Act, Digital Citizen Identity and e-payment system, as well as work is underway on digital ecosystem and data interoperability with the assistance of Estonia.
The Special Assistant also said that a national framework is being created to combat misinformation/false information centered on the elections and various organizations, including law enforcement agencies, are working together on this issue. In this regard, fact checking is an important issue, so France’s cooperation is needed for advanced level training of Bangladeshi fact checkers.
The special assistant also commented that France’s cooperation is needed in increasing the capacity of using satellite images and technology-based services.
The French ambassador said that Bangladesh and France believe in democratic values. Bangladesh is particularly important to them due to France’s active role in the Pacific region. French universities and engineering schools run on government subsidies, so the cost of education is relatively cheap. He also commented that this is a good opportunity for Bangladeshi students to study in France.
The ambassador also said that France’s space agency and research institutions are interested in providing imagery and academic assistance free of charge.
The meeting discussed in detail digital cooperation, cybersecurity, progress in the telecommunications sector and future work plans between the two countries. Both sides expressed their hope for closer cooperation in the future.
