Mr. KARASAWA Shinju, First Secretary, and Mr. MAKIGUCHI Yasuyuki, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, visited Gaibandha District on Tuesday (15 July, 2025) to attend the inauguration ceremony of “The Project for Procurement of Eye Care Equipment for SKS Eye Hospital in Gaibandha District.”
The project is implemented by the NGO SKS Foundation with funding from the Government of Japan under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).

Through this initiative, essential eye care equipment has been provided to SKS Eye Hospital to offer low-cost medical services to low-income and vulnerable populations in Gaibandha and surrounding districts. The project is expected to significantly strengthen the overall eye care service delivery system in the region.
At the event, Mr. KARASAWA stated, “I hope this project will contribute to improving the eye care services in Gaibandha and other nearby districts, and help people minimize their sufferings in eye-related sickness.”
Since 1989, the Government of Japan has supported a total of 221 NGO projects in Bangladesh under the GGHSP scheme, aiming to enhance economic and social human security at the grassroots level. The total grant assistance provided through GGHSP now amounts to approximately USD 17.5 million.
Representatives of SKS Foundation expressed their gratitude, noting that the equipment would greatly enhance their capacity to deliver affordable and quality eye care services to the most underserved segments of the population.
