A team of experts from four countries has been invited to investigate the fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) International Airport, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said.
The Adviser made this statement while briefing reporters after inspecting the cargo village and e-gate damaged in the recent fire at Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) International Airport this afternoon (October 25, 2025).
The Adviser said that experts from England, Australia, China and Turkey will come to investigate whether there was any mismanagement in the fire at the airport’s cargo village. They will investigate and help determine the cause and responsibility.
Stating that the fire service did not fail in controlling the fire, the advisor said that the fire service did its best to control the fire. They reached the spot on time and worked to put out the fire. Four units of the fire service under the airport authority also reached the spot within 30 seconds. Other units of the fire service also reached the spot within 15 to 20 minutes. He said that the fire spread quickly due to the high content of flammable materials in the cargo village. There were a lot of garment products and some chemicals there. He also said that it took some time to control the fire due to the rapid spread. Moreover, it takes time to control the fire at times due to the wind. It was possible to resume flight operations at 9 pm that day.
The Home Affairs Adviser said that discussions are underway to quickly launch electronic gates at the airport. Moreover, steps are being taken to reduce passport fees for expatriate workers and remittance fighters. He gave strict instructions to the concerned to reduce the immigration time at the airport as much as possible and stop unnecessary harassment of passengers.
At the same time, Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md. Mustafa Mahmud Siddique and Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passports Major General Md. Nurul Anwar ndc, psc, along with concerned officials were present.
