EU-Uttaran joint initiative on landless farmers and climate-vulnerable populations

The European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, visited the headquarters and various project areas of the social development organization Uttaran. During the visit, he directly exchanged views with local communities, civil society representatives and government officials.

The Ambassador celebrated the 20-year partnership between the European Union and Uttaran and praised Uttaran’s efforts to protect human rights and create a positive impact on the lives of landless farmers and climate-vulnerable populations by working from the grassroots.

He said that long-term sustainable development should be ensured not only through grants, but also through the development of market-based solutions and effective mechanisms. He also emphasized that the European Union sees Uttaran not only as a grant recipient, but also as an equal partner based on power sharing and mutual respect.

The transition team expressed hope to continue this partnership in the future, while working at the grassroots level to achieve human rights, social justice, climate justice, and sustainable transformation.
