Ensuring fair price for farmers’ produce is government’s priority: Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister

Desk Report:

Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has said that ensuring fair price for farmers’ produce is one of the government’s priorities. Farmers’ interests will be protected by bringing production, incentives, subsidies and market management under an integrated framework through the Farmers’ Card.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting of officials of the Department of Fisheries, Department of Livestock and various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture with the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture at the Chittagong Circuit House on Saturday (July 4, 2026). This meeting was organized with the overall cooperation of the Chittagong Divisional Administration and District Administration.

The minister said that the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman believes and the common people of the country also believe that if farmers are economically self-reliant, the national economy will also be strong. To implement this goal, the government is implementing a series of programs to increase production, ensure effective marketing systems and ensure farmers’ income by bringing the agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors under modern, planned and technology-based management.

Addressing the officials, the minister said that the policies, action plans and instructions announced by the government must be implemented properly. If they cannot coordinate their work speed and capacity with the government’s speed, the concerned officials will have to face accountability. There is no alternative to responsibility, sincerity and efficiency in implementing the instructions of the head of government.

He also said that as part of the implementation of the 31-point promise of the BNP to the people before the elections, various development programs have been undertaken to strengthen the agriculture and rural economy. In continuation of this, agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 have been waived and the government has paid the money to the concerned banks.

The minister said that canal re-excavation activities have been intensified to reduce dependence on groundwater and establish sustainable water management. The government is giving special importance to implementing initiatives to use canal water for agriculture during the dry season.

He said that the farmer card program has been launched to build an integrated digital database of the country’s farmers. After the successful completion of the pilot project, marginal, small and all other farmers will be brought under this card in phases. Through this, it will be possible to identify genuine farmers, directly distribute government incentives and subsidies, formulate production plans and make market management of agricultural products more effective and transparent.

The minister said that the agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors will be further strengthened by utilizing Bangladesh’s fertile soil, favorable climate and rich natural resources. Keeping this goal in mind, the government is implementing agriculture-friendly policies and programs.

At that time, State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md.
