‘Eco-friendly tannery system, coordination between government and private sectors will play an important role in the development of the leather industry’ – Industry Advisor

Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan said that eco-friendly tannery system, use of modern machinery and technology, skilled human resources and coordination between government and private sectors will play an important role in the development of the leather industry.

He said that the leather industry is the second largest export-oriented sector in Bangladesh. In addition to playing an important role in the national economy, this industry is creating employment opportunities for millions of people. There is a lot of value addition in leather, footwear and leather products. There is a huge potential for backward linkage and forward linkage in this sector. This industry has the potential to create employment opportunities for 3.5-4 million people by 2030 and produce and export leather, leather goods and footwear worth 12.50 billion US dollars.

Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan said this at the inauguration of the 9th Bangladesh Leather & Footwear Expo (BLF) – 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka on Thursday (July 24, 2025) afternoon.

At the beginning of his speech, the Industry Advisor expressed deep condolences to the victims of the tragic accident of the training plane crash at Milestone College, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The Industry Advisor also said that this fair will create a strong bridge between entrepreneurs, exporters and foreign buyers. Which will help expand Bangladesh’s international trade and increase export earnings.

Bangladesh Tanners Association Chairman Shahin Ahmed presided over the event, and BSCIC Chairman Md. Saiful Islam, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Baby Rani Karmakar, Tanners Association Secretary General Md. Mizanur Rahman and Mohammad Ali Bappi spoke.

BSCIC Chairman Md. Saiful Islam highlighted BSCIC’s activities for the development of the leather industry in his speech.

Various companies and organizations from 14 countries have taken up 148 stalls in the three-day (July 24-26) 9th Bangladesh Leather & Footwear Expo – 2025. Modern tanning and finishing machineries, leather, leather products and parts, and tannery technology are being exhibited in this fair.
