‘E-Passport’ service launched for Bangladeshis in Algeria

The e-passport service was inaugurated at the Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers, Algeria, on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) as the 62nd mission through a simple ceremony. The program was inaugurated by Bangladesh Ambassador to Algeria Md. Nazmul Huda in the presence of embassy officials and employees, a technical delegation including the Additional Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passports, a delegation of the Bangladesh-Algeria Business Forum, and expatriate Bangladeshis living in Algiers.

Before the inauguration, the team of the Department of Immigration and Passports completed the technical activities and the necessary training for the embassy officials and employees.

The Bangladeshis present at the event were briefed about the process of applying for ‘e-passport’ by Mr. Major Syed Golam Murtaza, Assistant Project Director of the e-passport and Automated Border Control Management Project, who came from Dhaka. Later, ATM Abu Asad, Additional Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passports, highlighted the importance and significance of the e-passport application. He also screened a documentary made on the government’s e-passport project.

Ambassador Md. Nazmul Huda addressed the audience. Thanking the technical delegation of the Department of Immigration and Passports, the Ambassador promised to provide e-passport services from the Embassy with utmost sincerity. He said that with the launch of this program, expatriate Bangladeshis living in Algeria and the neighboring countries of this Embassy (Cameroon, Mauritania, Mali and Gabon) will now be able to receive e-passport services.

The embassy will also accept applications for ‘e-passport’ while providing consular services in various cities in Algeria. Applicants can apply for a 5-year or 10-year passport and the e-passport will be provided within one month of receipt of the application. The Ambassador expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs for launching the e-passport program at the Bangladesh Embassy, ​​Algiers. The Ambassador called for everyone’s cooperation in keeping the process of issuing e-passport simple.

After the formal inauguration, the Ambassador handed over ‘e-passport’ enrollment slips to some applicants. The expatriate Bangladeshis present expressed their satisfaction with this initiative of the embassy and thanked the embassy.
