DSCC and Russian House jointly organize tree planting in memory of Soviet soldiers who died in World War II

The Director of the Russian House in Dhaka paid a courtesy visit to the Administrator (with the status of Mayor) of Dhaka South City Corporation to discuss the initiative.

As a symbolic initiative of international solidarity and historical remembrance, The Russian House in Dhaka in cooperation with the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is planning a special tree planting program in memory of the Soviet soldiers who sacrificed their lives in World War II. The initiative is being organized in Dhaka as part of the global celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory, observed annually on May 9 marking the end of World War II in 1945.

To discuss this important initiative, the Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, Mr. Pavel Dvoychenkov paid a courtesy visit on the Administrator (Mayor) of Dhaka South City Corporation, Md. Shahjahan Mia, at his official office. The meeting underscored the mutual interest in commemorating this historic victory and paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war, especially the Soviet soldiers.

During the discussion, both sides acknowledged the symbolic significance of launching the tree planting ceremony in Dhaka. The event will serve not only as a living tribute to the courage and sacrifice of these heroes but also as a symbol of peace, resilience and the enduring friendship between Russia and Bangladesh.

This initiative reflects both DSCC’s commitment to green urban development and the Russian House’s dedication to preserving historical memory and promoting cultural diplomacy. The event is envisioned to take place at a prominent venue designated by DSCC, with active participation from local officials, the Russian House in Dhaka, representatives of the Russian Embassy and high-level public figures from Bangladesh.

In addition to the commemorative program, the meeting also explored potential areas of cooperation, including education, culture, science, and heritage preservation. Proposals for historical exhibitions, cultural events, educational seminars, and other collaborative activities were discussed as part of a broader vision to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Md. Shahjahan Mia warmly welcomed the proposal and reiterated DSCC’s full support for future cooperation aimed at promoting international friendship and mutual understanding. Mr. Pavel Dvoychenkov expressed his appreciation for DSCC’s initiative and confirmed the Russian House’s readiness to work closely on the upcoming programs in future.

Preparations for the tree planting program and related events will begin shortly, with the shared goal of delivering a meaningful, inclusive and impactful experience for the people of Dhaka.
