On 9 February 2025, H.E. Mr. Alberto A. Guani, non-resident Ambassador of Uruguay accredited to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin, Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh.
Ambassador Guani briefed about the initiatives and achievements of the Uruguay Embassy since his presentation of credentials in 2024. He opined to formulating new strategy to strengthen bilateral relations based on innovation and technology. He highlighted that both the nations champion economic diplomacy. He also informed that Uruguay is globally renowned for its cutting-edge technology and development in ICT, manufacturing and renewable energy.
The Foreign Secretary lauded the increased interaction between Bangladesh and Uruguay and expressed Bangladesh’s willingness to work with Uruguay to further the political and economic relations.
Referring to the goals and objectives of the Interim Government to reform and hold a free and fair election, he mentioned the current government is working relentlessly to rebuild the nation on a foundation that truly serves the public interest. Focusing primarily on economic and trade related matters, he also emphasized on regular bilateral Political Consultation regarding which both Bangladesh and Uruguay have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Foreign Secretary referred to the potential in trade and investment in Bangladesh highlighting the demographic dividend, suitable investment facilities, vast pool of fresh graduates, favourable culture of freelancing, and advised exchange of trade and business delegations. He also briefed on the Rohingya situation.
Foreign Secretary assured the Ambassador of the Ministry’s full support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh for continued cooperation. Relevant officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present at the meeting.
