Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan Unveils Bangladesh’s First Christmas Tree Made from Fully Recycled Plastic Bottles

Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, today (December 8, 2025) ushered in a new chapter in sustainability by unveiling the country’s first Christmas tree made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Made from 3,688 single-use plastic bottles, this unique tree is not only a symbol of creativity but also a heartwarming symbol of environmental awareness. It is designed in line with IHG’s global sustainability plan “Journey to Tomorrow” and is designed with the message “RRR — Reduce. Reuse. Revive.”

The hotel’s senior leadership team spent months collecting single-use plastic bottles used in their daily lives, offices and various activities to create this special installation. Their commitment to the environment has now become a unique work of art in the festive atmosphere.

Speaking at the event, Karthi VK, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan, highlighted the context and significance of the initiative, saying, “Today’s installation is not just a tree—it is a reflection of our sense of responsibility. When we started discussing with our leadership team in July, we wanted to make a small change that would have a big impact. That’s why we decided to eliminate single-use plastic from our lives. Our tree is a visible manifestation of that small decision.”

He added, “Many people think of sustainability as a big initiative. But today’s 3,688 bottles prove that change starts with small, everyday actions—using even one less bottle can change the future. We believe that getting this message across to our guests, colleagues, and our local community is the greatest success.”

Karthi VK expressed his deep gratitude to artist Shariful Islam and his team, saying, “This would not have been possible without the creativity of Shariful and his team. They didn’t just create the structure—they brought our message to life. The beauty of this artwork proves that something world-class can be created with recycled materials.”

He added with more confidence, “We don’t just talk about protecting the environment—we believe in action. In the days to come, we will take more sustainable initiatives, so that every step we take makes the world more tolerant, clean, and beautiful.”

Also present at the event was Mr. Firoz Asad, Senior Group Advisor and Member of the Board, Doreen Group. Guests enjoyed the tree created in the hotel lobby and participated in discussions on important issues such as reducing single-use plastic.
