Commodity prices are stable to low during Ramadan: Trade Advisor

Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said, commodity prices are stable to low during Ramadan. The daily commodities market will further decline in the future.

He said this at a gathering of imams and khatibs after Iftar at Jamia Madania Baridhara auditorium organized by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Dhaka Metropolitan on Wednesday (March 12, 2025) evening.

The Trade Advisor said, a major reason behind the student revolution that took place on August 5 is wealth inequality. We must eliminate inequality through our actions and policy-making. The role of Karje Hasana and Zakat in the Islamic model is important to eliminate wealth inequality.

Zakat is an effective Islamic model of wealth distribution. Zakat is the responsibility of the individual, it is not charity. Imams and Khatibs can inspire people to pay Zakat. This will ensure equitable distribution of wealth and reduce poverty. Sheikh Bashiruddin also mentioned that Zakat discourages hoarding.

TCB conducts activities worth 12,000 crore taka annually. The government’s subsidy is 4,500 crore taka.

There has been serious corruption in all areas of our economy, social policy, and politics in the past. He mentioned that there has been ultimate corruption in TCB’s activities for the marginalized population.

Seeking the involvement of religious leaders in TCB’s activities, he said, “I appeal to leaders of all religions, not just Islam, to cooperate in selecting the 10 million marginalized families of TCB correctly. Through you, I want to establish justice in society.”

Stating that the government is taking steps to preserve the sacrificial skin and ensure fair price, the Commerce Advisor said, this time the government will deliver salt to madrasas and orphanages to preserve the sacrificial skin. Your responsibility will be to clean the skin and preserve it with salt instead of selling it on the day of sacrifice. If you sell it after 7 days, you will get a suitable price.

Referring to leather as a national asset, he said, it is a major source of income for our madrasas and orphanages. The Ministry of Industries and Commerce is taking appropriate initiatives to develop the leather industry.

Immediately after the sacrifice, when leather enters Dhaka from districts outside Dhaka, the supply increases and the price also decreases. He added that it will be ensured that this does not happen this time.

Hefazat-e-Islam Dhaka Metropolitan President Muhammad Junaid Al Habib, Hefazat-e-Islam Dhaka Metropolitan General Secretary Muhammad Mamunul Haque, leaders of different levels of Hefazat-e-Islami and Khatibs and Imams of various mosques were present at the time.
