Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Inaugurates Free Wi-Fi Service at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

Today, Sunday (May 17, 2026), Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Ms. Afroza Khanam inaugurated the free Wi-Fi service at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Fakir Mahbub Anam, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Rehan Asif Asad, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, were present.

In a press briefing in this regard, Afroza Khanam said that the current democratic government is providing high-quality digital services to the general passengers of the airport in light of the promise of ‘fast and reliable internet for all’ announced in the election manifesto after assuming office. She said, “I hope we will be able to inaugurate the third terminal soon and that will be an important milestone for us.”

State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said that more than 37,000 passengers will be able to use this free Wi-Fi at a time. At the same time, he thanked the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology for his initiative.

It is worth noting that this Wi-Fi network is spread over an area of ​​about 94,000 square meters of the airport. It includes Terminal-1, Terminal-2, Domestic Terminal, VIP Terminal, VVIP Terminal and car parking area. As a result of this wide coverage, passengers will be able to receive free internet services in almost all important parts of the airport.

Modern network infrastructure has been set up for the service. This includes 250 access points (AP), 48 kilometers of optical fiber and Ethernet cables and 37 access switches. Through this technological infrastructure, fast and stable free Wi-Fi services are being ensured at different locations of the airport.

Each access point is capable of serving a maximum of 150 users simultaneously. Accordingly, approximately 37,500 users will be able to access the internet at the same time using 250 access points. The entire system is being operated with a maximum bandwidth capacity of 40 Gbps, which will ensure fast and stable internet service across the entire coverage area.
