Chief Adviser urges implementation of Women’s Affairs Reform Commission recommendations

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed the concerned ministries and departments to quickly implement the recommendations of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission that are now implementable to eliminate discrimination against women.

The Chief Advisor gave this instruction after receiving the report of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday (April 19, 2025).

‘The recommendations that are quickly implementable should be done through us. We should be able to create an example for other countries of the world through this work. The girls of the world are looking at this. They will review it. They will be inspired. Women of other countries are also serious about this,’ said the Chief Advisor.

He said, ‘This is not just a women’s issue but a general issue. This report will be printed and distributed. It will be printed in the form of a book like a textbook. It cannot be kept as a document in the office, it must be made open to the people.’

Professor Yunus said that these proposals of the Women’s Reform Commission will also be taken to the political parties through the National Consensus Commission.

Shirin Parvin Haque, head of the Women’s Reform Commission, said, ‘In memory of those who lost their lives in July, we wanted to do something that would be beneficial for the people, beneficial for the society.’

Noting that the recommendations have been divided into three parts, she said, some can be done by this government, some can be done by the next elected government, and the hopes and aspirations of the women’s movement have been highlighted separately. The Reform Commission has proposed reforms in 15 areas.

The report handover ceremony to the Chief Advisor was attended by Shirin Haque, a member of the commission, Mahin Sultan, Senior Fellow of BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, Advocate Kamrun Nahar, President of Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation Kalpana Akhter, Women’s Health Expert Halida Hanum Akhter, Executive Director of Bangladesh Women Workers Center Sumaiya Islam, former member of the National Human Rights Commission Nirupa Dewan, former Senior Social Development Advisor of the Asian Development Bank Ferdousi Sultana, and student representative Nishita Zaman Niha.
