When the Chief Adviser asked for details of the casualties, Special Assistant Professor Md. Sayedur Rahman gave a detailed description of the incident and said that initially the burn patients were taken to hospitals near the scene. There, the doctors of the hospital provided first aid very quickly and sent almost all of them to the Burn Institute and the Combined Military Hospital. Immediately after the incident, the Director of the Burn Institute was asked by the ministry to be ready. All the service providers including doctors, nurses were ready and were able to provide quick medical care to about 30 burn patients who came to the emergency department together.
He also said that due to the rapid transfer of patients to other hospitals after first aid in about 10 hospitals, there was some confusion about the number of dead and injured patients at first. In addition, there were several remains that had to be identified through DNA profiling, which took some time.
Professor Saidur said that the lack of ambulances during the transfer of patients was clearly understood. The limitations of the country’s emergency healthcare have been visible through this accident.
The Chief Adviser ordered to immediately send a specific proposal on what to do in this regard and said that action would be taken soon.
