Diplomatic Desk:

Business In Bangladesh Editor Mohammad Shajibul-Al-Rajib congratulated Maldives High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed while attending ‘The Great Tuna Gala—Flavors from the Sunny Side,’ an event organized by the High Commission of the Maldives in Dhaka.

M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism of the Government of Bangladesh, attended the event—held on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) at Sheraton Dhaka—as the chief guest.

Maldives High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed stated that the ocean shares a profound connection with the Maldives’ economy, its island communities, and its culture. The fisheries sector plays a vital role in the country’s economy. Notably, the harvesting of tuna using the traditional pole-and-line method is a hallmark of the Maldives’ sustainable fisheries management.

Highlighting the potential for expanding the market for Maldivian tuna and other fishery products in Bangladesh, the High Commissioner noted that increased connectivity between the two nations is creating new opportunities for growth in tourism, trade, and business engagement.

Speaking as the chief guest, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat remarked that there are opportunities to further deepen cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives in the fisheries and tourism sectors. He stated that the two countries could collaborate on sustainable fishing practices and tourism development. He also emphasized the importance of close communication in promoting tourism and fostering new areas of mutual cooperation.

The event, attended by approximately 250 guests, saw the presence of senior government officials from Bangladesh, diplomats from various countries, business leaders, stakeholders from the tourism and fisheries sectors, and media representatives.
