British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday (June 20, 2026).
During the meeting, the British High Commissioner congratulated the Foreign Minister on being elected as the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) (2026-2027).
During the meeting, both sides appreciated the long-standing historical relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, the strong people-to-people contacts and the role of the vibrant Bangladeshi diaspora living in the United Kingdom. They noted that this diaspora community serves as an important bridge between the two countries.
During the meeting, ways to further expand bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, education, migration, skills development, were discussed.
The Foreign Minister appreciated the UK’s continued support in addressing the Rohingya crisis. He called on the UK to continue its leadership role in international efforts to ensure the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya.
At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing progress in Bangladesh-UK relations and reiterated their commitment to continue closer cooperation on various bilateral, regional and global issues.
