On the occasion of New Year 1432, the ‘Barshavaran Ananda Shobhajatra’ started from the premises of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University on Monday (April 14) morning. A festive atmosphere was created there since dawn, and the procession officially began at 9 am.
The surroundings seemed to take the form of a colorful canvas. The colors of red, orange, yellow and green were striking. The areas adjacent to the Fine Arts Area, TSC, Ramna Park and Shaheed Minar were filled with the participation of thousands of people.
Fine arts students and teachers, students of various educational institutions, cultural workers and people of all ages participated in the procession. Masks, huge puppets, bamboo-made birds, fish and tiger artworks—all together create a unique picture of rural life and nature-based culture.
Many came from districts outside Dhaka as well. The women’s flower garlands, colorful bangles in their hands, and the lively faces of the children—all together made the procession colorful and inspiring.
The main theme of this year’s procession was—’New Year’s Harmony, End of Fascism’. The procession started from the Fine Arts Campus, passed through Shahbagh, TSC, Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, and ended back at the Fine Arts Campus.
Tight security arrangements were made around the entire event. The university administration and law enforcement agencies actively performed their duties and maintained a peaceful environment.
