BIMSTEC Secretary General pays courtesy call on Trade Advisor

BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey paid a courtesy call on Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.

The courtesy call was held at the Trade Advisor’s office in the Secretariat on Monday (06 January 2025) afternoon. During the meeting, they discussed in detail what needs to be done to make BIMSTEC more effective.

Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the organization, formed with the aim of working on trade, investment and economic cooperation, is working to protect the interests of partner countries. The achievements in the last 27 years have not been as expected. However, increasing trade between partner countries, especially mutual understanding between traders and traders, can play a role in making the organization more effective.

At the same time, the Trade Advisor called on BIMSTEC to prepare a roadmap to double regional trade.

BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani said that the ministerial meetings will help make BIMSTEC more effective. She sought Bangladesh’s cooperation to make the ministerial meetings fruitful for increasing exports, imports and investments in the regional area.

Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim was present at the meeting.
