Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the government is determined to reach the benefits of economic growth to people from all walks of life in the country. At the same time, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the current government’s goal is to break the influence of the oligarchs who enjoyed special privileges during the fascist era and build a competitive economic system.
He said these things while addressing a conference titled ‘Trade, Economic Growth and Economic Diplomacy Action Plan’ organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (June 13, 2026) morning. The conference was attended by the country’s top policymakers, business leaders, representatives of diplomatic missions and officials of various international organizations and institutions.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that national development is being given top priority, focusing on economic diplomacy. He stressed the need to strengthen the country’s economy to face challenges such as the global energy crisis, climate change and international economic uncertainty.
The Foreign Minister said that Bangladesh’s economy will be made more stable and sustainable by building strong partnerships with the international community. He said that the government is working to establish Bangladesh as one of the leading investment destinations in South Asia, along with increasing constructive cooperation to attract global investment.
At the conference, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the government is committed to reaching all the people of the country with the benefits of economic development, not limiting it to a specific group. He also emphasized on reducing the cost of doing business and reducing bureaucratic complexity to increase investment and employment.
On the other hand, Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that one of the government’s goals is to break the dominance of the oligarch group that enjoyed special privileges in the past and establish a fair, competitive and accountable economic structure.
Speakers at the conference said that the government is implementing various initiatives to transform Bangladesh into a strong and investment-friendly economy through trade expansion, sustainable growth and effective economic diplomacy. They also expressed their commitment to developing Bangladesh as a regional economic hub by ensuring a competitive, neutral and stable environment for global investors.
