Mentioning that Bangladeshi women will move forward in line with the developed world to realize the dream of building a developed Bangladesh, he said, ‘This should be our commitment in the development and empowerment of Bangladeshi women.’
The Chief Advisor said these things in a message given on Friday (March 7, 2025) on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’.
Professor Muhammad Yunus said, ‘March 8 is International Women’s Day. In 1975, the United Nations recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day. This day is celebrated every year in Bangladesh, like other countries in the world, to protect women’s rights. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day is: ‘Rights, Equality, Empowerment – Development of Women and Girls’.
The Chief Advisor said, “Women were at the forefront of the mass uprising organized by students, workers and the public in the desire for democratic transformation of Bangladesh in July-August. Lakhs of students protested against repression on various campuses. Several women were martyred in this mass uprising. I respectfully remember those who sacrificed themselves in this mass uprising and express my condolences to the July warriors.” Professor Muhammad Yunus said that half of the country’s population is women. They are moving forward in all fields. In addition to women’s rights and empowerment, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is implementing multifaceted programs to increase women’s participation and partnership in every field, including the country’s economic development.
He said that shelter homes for abused, distressed and helpless women, ‘Women’s Support Centers’ to provide legal assistance, housing for working women and assistance and micro-credit programs aimed at creating self-employment for women are playing an important role in making women financially self-reliant and ensuring social security.
The Chief Advisor said that the indomitable women of Bangladesh are moving forward in the international arena with their own glory beyond the borders of the country. Various initiatives have been taken to recognize the achievements of women, including the ‘Indomitable Women Award’ and the ‘Begum Rokeya Padak’.
