Bangladesh-US Tariff Talks: Productive Discussions on Bilateral Trade Mark Second Day, Partial Progress on Key Issues

On the second day of the three-day Bangladesh-US tariff talks, on Thursday (July 10, 2025), the current and future trade dynamics between the two countries were presented and discussed. The two countries have broadly agreed on several issues. Some issues remain unresolved.

A notable aspect of the second day of talks is that Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin held a private meeting with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer. Greer is a very important person of ministerial rank in the Trump administration. In addition to discussions on tariffs, issues related to trade and interests of the two countries were discussed in a cordial atmosphere. In the discussion, the Trade Advisor highlighted the overall situation in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is committed to increasing its exports to the United States as well as its imports, and this has already begun. Bangladesh expects fairness in terms of tariffs. The environment should be competitive for Bangladesh. Greer assured all-round cooperation.

Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin led the discussion on behalf of Bangladesh. National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman was connected virtually from Dhaka. Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary Dr. Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury were also present directly. High-ranking government officials and experts were connected virtually.
