Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, held a significant bilateral meeting with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, in Tehran.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is leading the Bangladeshi parliamentary delegation attending the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Upon his arrival in Tehran on Thursday, 2 July 2026, he was warmly received at the airport by Iran’s Deputy Speaker, Hamid Reza Haji Babaei.

At the outset of the meeting, Speaker Ghalibaf extended a warm welcome to the Bangladeshi parliamentary delegation. During the discussions, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed strongly condemned the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader and expressed his profound grief. On behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh, he conveyed heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the Government and the brotherly people of Iran.
The Bangladesh Speaker reaffirmed the centuries-old friendship between Bangladesh and Iran, highlighting the deep cultural ties and longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of further expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed commended Speaker Ghalibaf for his constructive role in the implementation of the recently signed Peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States. He expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Iran and across the wider region. He also reiterated Bangladesh’s continued support for the peace process and expressed confidence that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of resolving all disputes peacefully.
To further strengthen bilateral relations, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed formally invited Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
The meeting was attended by Iran’s Deputy Speaker, members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and officials of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tehran.
