Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that Bangladesh is gradually moving steadily towards clean energy, green economy and self-reliant energy system.

He said this while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Renewable Solar Power On-Grid Rooftop’ organized at the Oath Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (24 May 2026) morning.
The Prime Minister said, “Today we are inaugurating an initiative that is not just an electricity generation initiative; rather, it is a symbol of Bangladesh’s sustainable future.”
He also said, “By inaugurating the one-megawatt rooftop solar power system at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, we will be able to send a clear message—Bangladesh is moving steadily towards clean energy, green economy and self-reliant energy system.”
At the request of the Prime Minister, the event was inaugurated by Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Maj. (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram.
At that time, the Prime Minister said that the National Parliament Building, designed by world-renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, is a symbol of democracy in Bangladesh. By using solar energy on the roof of that building, the government wants to prove that leadership should be reflected not only in policymaking but also in practical activities.
Also present at the event were Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Minister of State Anindya Islam Amit and Chief Whip of the National Parliament Nurul Islam Moni.
In addition, ministers of various government ministries, state ministers, whips of the National Parliament, members of Parliament, secretaries of the Parliament Secretariat, members of the Prime Minister’s Press Wing and officials and employees working in the National Parliament were present at the event.
