Bangladesh is going to witness a historic election on the path of democracy: KMP Commissioner at briefing parade

Khulna Correspondent:

A briefing parade has been organized by the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) with the aim of conducting the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum-2026 peacefully, freely and fairly. The parade was held at the KMP Police Lines ground in Boyara on Wednesday (11 February 2026) morning.

KMP Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, BPM-Service, addressed the police members at the briefing parade. He said that after 54 years of independence, Bangladesh is going to witness a historic election and Bangladesh Police will play an important role in this process. The eyes of about 18 crore people of the country are now focused on voting.

The Commissioner said that the large number of people traveling to railway stations and highways in recent times proves that citizens are very interested in exercising their voting rights. Just like returning home during Eid, millions of people are returning to their respective areas around this election. This is an expression of people’s trust that they will be able to vote without any hindrance. He mentioned that maintaining this trust of the people is the main responsibility of the law enforcement agencies.

He said that along with the police, members of the army, navy, BGB and Ansar will be active in the field. Strict surveillance will be ensured through CCTV cameras and body-worn cameras at each polling station so that transparency and accountability are maintained.

The commissioner also said that the upcoming election is a big opportunity to restore the image of the police, which was questioned in the past around controversial elections. He instructed them to perform their duties with complete impartiality and professionalism without succumbing to any kind of pressure, threat or influence. He also assured of providing direct assistance at the field level in emergency situations.

He said that the KMP’s commitment is to ensure a festive and safe voting environment for the common people by utilizing the spirit of cooperation existing among the rival candidates of Khulna metropolis.

At that time, Additional Police Commissioner (Admin and Finance) of KMP, currently promoted to the rank of DIG, Mr. Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Ops) Mr. Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan, BPM-Service, PPM (Bar); Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic and Protocol) Mr. Muhammad Shahnewaz Khaled, PPM-Service, along with other senior officers and police members of various ranks were present.
