Bangladesh Army Controls Communal Violence in Khagrachhari and Guimara

The Bangladesh Army has announced that it successfully brought the recent communal disturbances in Khagrachhari and Guimara under control. According to an official statement, the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) and its affiliated organizations attempted to create instability in the Chittagong Hill Tracts following the motorcycle driver Mamun’s murder on September 19, 2024.

Between September 23–28, 2025, UPDF and its allies allegedly incited unrest among the Bengali and local populations, organizing protests, road blockades, attacks on civilians, and assaults on Army and Border Guard personnel. During these incidents, three army officers and ten personnel were injured.

The statement highlighted that the Army, BGB, and law enforcement maintained restraint and handled the situation with utmost patience and humanitarian concern. At a special checkpoint, authorities confiscated a significant amount of locally made weapons from armed UPDF members. The Army called upon political leaders and citizens to act responsibly and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security for all communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and protecting the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
