The Fourth Political Consultations between Bangladesh and Turkey were held on Tuesday (October 7, 2025) morning at the Padma State Guest House in the capital. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Ambassador Asad Alam Siam and Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador A. Beris Ekinci led their respective country delegations in the meeting.

The consultation meeting, held in a sincere, cordial and constructive atmosphere, reaffirmed the bonds of historical friendship, mutual respect, cultural unity and religious values existing between the two countries. Both sides reiterated their commitment to further deepen and strengthen relations based on the common aspiration for peace, stability, development and prosperity.
The Bangladesh side expressed its unwavering support to the Turkish government for the interim government and its commendable reform steps taken to establish democracy, human rights, the rule of law and inclusive governance. The Turkish side also reiterated its commitment to continue supporting Bangladesh’s democratic transformation and institutional development efforts.
The two countries highlighted the importance of expanding trade, increasing investment, implementing joint venture projects and expeditiously convening the next meeting of the Economic Commission. The Bangladesh side called on Turkish investors to invest more in Bangladesh and sought Turkey’s cooperation in meeting the next challenges of graduation from LDC.
Reviewing defense and security cooperation, both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing partnership in defense industry, training and capacity building. At the same time, they emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation against all forms of terrorism.
Discussions were held on enhancing mutual cooperation in the energy sector, especially utilizing Turkey’s experience in green technology and renewable energy. Both countries also emphasized the importance of increasing cooperation in the fields of education, culture, science and technology, information technology, youth and sports.
The Bangladesh side expressed gratitude for the support for the treatment of those injured in the ‘July Revolution’ and the continued activities of the Turkish field hospital in the Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp. Appreciating Turkey’s political and humanitarian support on the Rohingya issue, both countries emphasized the need for the safe, voluntary and sustainable return of the Rohingya.
During the exchange of views on recent developments in the international arena, both countries welcomed the extension of the recognition of the State of Palestine and reiterated their strong position in favor of the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They demanded an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian assistance to end the ongoing genocide and humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
The two countries pledged to continue close cooperation in multilateral forums including the UN, OIC and D-8. They also agreed to review the progress of existing bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding and ensure their early signing.
At the end of the discussion, both countries agreed to hold the next Political Consultations in Ankara. Both sides expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would establish Bangladesh-Türkiye relations on a stronger foundation.
