Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria following the 2nd Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) between Bangladesh and Algeria in Algiers on Wednesday (5 February 2025).
During the meeting, both the dignitaries expressed satisfaction over the fraternal relations that exist between Bangladesh and Algeria. They explored avenues to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, and beyond. Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin apprised the Minister of Bangladesh’s economic progress, and potentials. He also commented that Bangladesh and Algeria could achieve and bring forth spectacular economic relations within shortest possible time.
Amb. Jashim and the Algerian Foreign Minister exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to ongoing collaboration in multilateral fora. The Foreign Secretary apprised the Minister of the Rohingya crisis in details. Mr. Attaf expressed his solidarity with Bangladesh in addressing the crisis, recognizing the humanitarian challenges posed by the large influx of refugees. He assured Algeria’s full support to ensure the repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf acknowledged Bangladesh’s contributions to global peace, development, and humanitarian efforts. He also expressed Algeria’s firm commitment to strengthening ties between two countries at all levels.
