Additional 100 seats added to the visitors’ gallery for students in the National Parliament

Desk Report:

To increase the opportunity for students to directly observe the activities of the National Parliament, 100 more seats have been allocated in the visitors’ gallery. As a result, a total of 150 students will now be able to watch the sessions of the Parliament directly.

The Speaker of the National Parliament approved the proposal in the context of a quasi-official letter (DO) from the Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon. This information was given in a press release of the Ministry of Education on Friday (April 10, 2026).

Earlier, in a letter sent to the Speaker, the Education Minister mentioned that in a democratic state system, the National Parliament reflects the sovereign will of the people and is the highest law-making institution for the governance of the state. It is very important to create a realistic idea about the practice of parliamentary democracy and state policy-making activities among the new generation of students.

He further said that along with the theoretical knowledge of the textbook, direct observation of the activities of the Parliament will play an effective role in awakening the students’ sense of patriotism and civic responsibility.

The letter mentioned that currently, out of a total of 448 seats in the visitors’ gallery of the Parliament, only 50 seats are reserved for students below the age of 12. If an additional 100 seats are permanently reserved, students from different parts of the country will get the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about the state system and democratic values through educational tours.

Regarding this initiative, the Education Minister said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman used to organize boat cruises to give students an idea about the state. Similarly, this initiative will play an important role in making the current generation of students aware of the state and politics.

Secretary of the National Parliament Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan welcomed this initiative and said that when the students come to the Parliament, they will be informed in detail about the working procedures, traditions and architectural style of the Parliament before the session begins. Through this, they will be able to get a clear and correct idea about the Parliament.
