BNP walks out of National Consensus Commission meeting

BNP walks out of the 20th day of the second round of the Consensus Commission meeting.

The party leaders made this decision at the beginning of the 20th day of the second round of the political parties’ meeting with the commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday (July 28). The party walked out shortly after the meeting began.

One of the two topics discussed today was related to the provisions for appointing the Public Service Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Auditor General and the Ombudsman. The organization walked out of the meeting temporarily, claiming that forming committees on these issues as per the commission’s proposal would question the power of the executive branch.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told the media, “We walked out temporarily. We will return to the next discussion. We may go to this discussion again to reiterate our position.” However, after some time, the BNP delegation joined the discussion again.
