French Ambassador Reiterates Commitment to Bangladesh in Democracy and Development at Reception on France’s National Day in Dhaka

France has expressed strong confidence in Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition and assured its continued support for the country’s reform and development efforts.

French Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie Masdupui made these remarks at a reception on the occasion of France’s National Day organized at the French Embassy premises in Dhaka on Sunday (July 14, 2025) evening.

Mr. Ali Imam Majumder, Adviser for Food and Land, attended the event as the chief guest.

In his speech, the Ambassador mentioned that the fall of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, known as the monument to the struggle and democratic progress of the French people. He said, “It took 100 years for democracy to be established in France, but I am optimistic that the people of Bangladesh will achieve democracy even faster.”

He reiterated France’s commitment to continue its development cooperation with Bangladesh, especially in the sectors of climate adaptation, water and sanitation.

The ambassador also said that France and Bangladesh will soon start working together on space technology, which will help Bangladesh collect and manage climate data.

As part of our annual commitment to promoting the French language, three students from the Dhaka University and the Chittagong University were awarded the Ambassador’s Prize.

The reception reflected the strong cultural ties between the two countries. It created a festive atmosphere through bilateral exchanges in the industrial and educational sectors, cultural performances and friendly discussions.

The event was attended by local and foreign diplomats, business leaders, cultural workers, military and civilian officials and important figures in society.
