Director General of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid a courtesy call on Foreign Secretary (East) Dr. Nazrul Islam

Ambassador Thomas Lund-Sorensen, Director General for Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark called on Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary (East) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (12 May, 2025) afternoon.

Ambassador Lund-Sorensen briefed the Secretary on the outcomes of the third round of Bilateral Consultations held between Bangladesh and Denmark at the State Guest House Padma this morning. He reiterated Denmark’s continued commitment to supporting the Interim Government of Bangladesh in its transition towards a peaceful, democratic, and equitable Bangladesh. He also conveyed their Government’s intention to developing a new strategic sectoral cooperation on circular economy, with a particular focus on RMG sector.

The Secretary (East) thanked the government of Denmark for its additional allocation of 5 million USD to support Bangladesh’s democratic transition. He also appreciated the initiative of establishment of a Joint Trade and Investment Committee to reap the trade benefits. Secretary Islam also encouraged Danish investment in the areas of renewable energy, green transition, climate action, advanced technology and sustainable development. He further sought continued support from the Government of Denmark for early repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh to Myanmar.

Both the Secretary and the Ambassador underscored the need for enhanced cooperation for the implementation of the Joint Action Plan adopted as part of the Bangladesh-Denmark Sustainable and Green Framework Engagement.

Ambassador Thomas Lund-Sorensen was on a two-day visit to Dhaka to lead an official delegation from the Government of Denmark to the third round of Bilateral Consultations.
