No battery-powered rickshaws will be allowed on Dhaka main roads: DNCC Administrator

To restore order on the roads of the capital and reduce traffic congestion, no battery-powered rickshaws will be allowed on Dhaka main roads, while only approved battery-powered rickshaws (e-rickshaws) of standard models will be allowed on internal roads, said DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz.

He said this in his speech as the chairman at a meeting on the latest progress and future steps to be taken on the construction of standard models and prototypes of battery-powered rickshaws (e-rickshaws) organized by Dhaka North City Corporation on Tuesday (April 29, 2025).

He also said that a high-level committee will be formed soon to prepare standard models and policies for battery-powered rickshaws (e-rickshaws).

In the meeting, BUET’s BEPRC Easy Bike Project formulated a proposal for type approval and registration of a new standardized model of three-wheeled low-speed e-rickshaw. It called on the manufacturing companies to manufacture prototypes according to this proposal.

Among others, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md. Kamruzzaman, ndc, Chief Engineer Brig. Gen. Md. Moin Uddin, DNCC General Manager (Transport) Abdullah Al Masud, and prominent figures from battery-powered rickshaw (e-rickshaw) manufacturing companies were also present in the meeting.
