Home Adviser requests traders not to increase prices of goods during Ramadan

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has requested traders not to increase prices of essential commodities during Ramadan.

The advisor made this request while briefing journalists after visiting the Public Management Order barracks located at Mirpur Police Lines in the capital on Sunday (March 02, 2025) evening.

The advisor said that followers of other religions reduce the prices of goods during their religious ceremonies. In Muslim countries in the Middle East, prices of goods are also reduced during Ramadan. And in our country, the opposite happens, traders increase the prices of goods during Ramadan. He said, I will request traders not to increase the prices of goods during this time. They should keep the prices of goods as low as possible during Ramadan. If this can be done, consumers will be able to afford it, they will get relief.

Responding to a question from journalists whether a special performance will be conducted to control the prices of goods during Ramadan like other years, Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, “You have to say or admit that this time the prices of goods are lower than last time. And if the prices of goods can be controlled without conducting a campaign, that is even better.”

Regarding the attack on the two women in Lalmatia, the advisor said, “As far as I know, they were smoking cigarettes, some people were going to pray there. They (the people) threw tea at them when they stopped them.” He said, smoking in public places is a crime for both men and women. So I would like to request everyone not to smoke in open places. He also said, everyone should be a little restrained during Ramadan. And our religious advisor has requested everyone not to eat outside during the day during Ramadan. If this can be done, the fasting people are respected.

The advisor earlier visited the barracks of the ‘Public Order Management (POM)’. He toured their accommodation and checked the quality of food, especially various iftar items. He instructed senior police officers not to compromise on the quality of food.

The advisor said that during Ramadan, more food than the prescribed food was given to the police members of the barracks. Since there was insufficient pressure in the gas line of the kitchen of the barracks, there was a problem in cooking, so the advisor immediately informed the energy advisor and took necessary measures to resolve the problem.
