Japanese Ambassador pays courtesy call on Trade Advisor

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi paid a courtesy call on Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin. The meeting was held at the Trade Advisor’s office at the Secretariat today, Monday (February 24, 2025).

The meeting discussed the increase in trade and investment between the two countries, exchange of experiences, and the Trade Advisor’s recent visit to Japan.

The Trade Advisor said that fruitful discussions were held in Tokyo with representatives of Japan’s large trade groups NEXI (NIPPON), Mitsui, Marubeni, HSBC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, and JT regarding investment in Bangladesh. They have expressed interest in investing in the country.

Describing Japan as one of Bangladesh’s development partners and friendly countries, the Trade Advisor said that there is an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations through increased trade and investment. He called on Japanese businessmen and entrepreneurs to create employment in the country through more investment.

Noting that the recent visit to Japan of the Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, led by the Trade Advisor, will play an effective role in increasing trade and investment, the Japanese Ambassador said that this will further strengthen bilateral business relations. At the same time, he expressed his interest in taking up Japanese language education programs for Bangladeshis in Bangladesh and bringing skilled manpower from this country to Japan.

Additional Secretary (Director General, Trade Organization) of the Ministry of Commerce Mohammad Navid Shafiullah and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhter were present during the meeting.
