FBCCI Administrator Calls for Simplification of Visa Process for Bangladeshi Businesspeople

Desk Report:

Lithuania, a nation in Northeastern Europe, is keen to increase investment and trade in Bangladesh’s technology, transport, and logistics sectors. As part of this initiative, the country aims to further strengthen its bilateral trade and mutual cooperation with Bangladesh.

This interest was conveyed by Vidmantas Verbickas, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, during a courtesy call on the Administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Md. Fazlul Haque, on Thursday afternoon (October 8, 2026).

The FBCCI Administrator welcomed Lithuania’s interest but suggested that the country simplify its visa process. Fazlul Haque noted that it is quite difficult for Bangladeshi businesspeople to travel to another country solely to complete visa formalities. He highlighted the potential for trade and investment between Bangladesh and Lithuania—a member state of the European Union—and expressed optimism that Bangladesh could benefit from Lithuania’s expertise in advanced technology, transport, and logistics.

The Lithuanian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that their primary objective is to expand markets in the Indo-Pacific region, alongside their presence in Europe. He expressed an interest in utilizing Bangladesh as a strategic commercial hub within this region. Regarding visa-related challenges, the Vice Minister mentioned that they are exploring solutions, such as establishing a visa service center in Dhaka or facilitating the process through the consulate of another Schengen-member country.

Furthermore, Vice Minister Vidmantas Verbickas extended a formal invitation for a delegation of Bangladeshi businesspeople to participate in the ‘Digitech Summit’ and the European Union-Bangladesh Business Forum, both scheduled to be held in Lithuania next year. Also present at the meeting were FBCCI Secretary General Md. Alamgir; Lukas Kisielius, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Lithuania in India; and Kristina Bikauskaite, Attaché for the Indo-Pacific Region at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, among others.
